Description:

Restoration of an exceptional monumental building in Leiden.
Dating back to the 16th century, the property is a composite complex consisting of 3 different parts, a front house, summer house and back house, connected by an 18th-century corridor.

The design brief was to create space within the complex for a family home that could accommodate several generations under one roof.
The challenge here was that the front house no longer had a staircase from the ground floor to the first floor.
After a long search, a layout was found that would make this property a true family home.
To achieve this, a new staircase was installed in the front house, connecting the ground floor to the first floor within all the monumental parts.

The property was in terrible condition and was on the verge of collapse in several places. With a lot of skill and craftsmanship, the property was restored so that it can hopefully last for generations again.
