Description:

In the historic centre of Leiden, behind the Rapenburg, stands a small monumental building on a quiet alley. This building has been fully restored and converted into a compact upper-floor apartment with a garage on the ground floor.

The upper-floor apartment is only 32 m², which posed the challenge of creating an optimal layout, comparable to a tiny house. This was achieved by pushing the kitchen through the rear facade into a small extension on the first floor.

This extension is clad in copper-brown zinc, which beautifully complements the brickwork and the green surroundings of the Rapenburg's back gardens. The result is a compact but efficiently laid out home that retains the monumental character.
