On a prominent corner on the Herengracht in Leiden stands a corner building with an unusual 1930s façade. For a long time, it housed a flower shop. In the 1990s, the facade was modernised on the cheap: painted white, fitted with thick ventilation grilles and the double doors replaced by a simple kitchen door.

The owner asked MW architecture to draw up a restoration plan for the facades of this corner building, in which the shopfront would be reconstructed again.

With the help of subsidies for shop-front restoration provided by Leiden municipality and a good historical photo from the RCE image bank, we succeeded in drawing up a restoration/reconstruction plan. Together with architectenbureau Anton de Gruyl, this plan was drawn up.

The shop front has now been reconstructed, the facades in a matching historical colour scheme after colour research and the building made more sustainable by installing insulating glass.
Next spring, the parapet of the shopfront will be finished.
