Week 15: restoration and reconstruction of Breestraat, Leiden
MW architectuur is currently working hard on a plan for this monumental building on the Breestraat in Leiden.
The building will be completely renovated. Downstairs, the retail space will have a reconstructed facade as it was until 1947. This facade will be reconstructed on the basis of the scarce archive drawings and photographs that have been found.
The upper house, which is now empty, will be converted into two luxury three-room apartments. An extra floor will be placed on the secret annexe for this purpose. This floor was removed from the building sometime around 1930 and is now being reconstructed.
At this moment the first non-monumental parts are being demolished in order to be able to better map out how the different parts will be reconstructed in the future.
